"Your pupils," he said. "They aren't retracting."

Constricting is the word I think you're looking for there...or conversely, you could say "Your pupils, they're dilated..."

There were so many questions that I wanted to ask her. Mainly, why was she such a snickety bitch?

Yes. That's the first question I would want to ask of someone that might actually have some answers to the crazy, dangerous-as-hell shit going on!

My consciousness was in and out after that...

She then proceeds to list, in staccato format, nearly every step from there to the house -

I've been in and out of consciousness for an entire day - I didn't remember this damn much, nor could I really make sense of what was happening.

Also, why did no one call the FUCKING cops?!?!!?

Was I the only one taught not to set my drink down and leave it unattended, or accept drinks from strangers in a bar?

I have a bad feeling - I don't like these guys, at all.

"I don't know many rules to live by," [Brimstone'd] said. "But here's one. It's simple. Don't put anything unnecessary into yourself. No poisons or chemicals, no fumes or smoke or alcohol, no sharp objects, no inessential needles--drug or tattoo--and...no inessential penises, either."

"Inessential penises?" Karou had repeated, delighted with the phrase in spite of her grief. "Is there any such thing as an essential one?"

"When an essential one comes along, you'll know," he'd replied. "Stop squandering yourself, child. Wait for love."

LOVE Brimstone!! <3 <3 <3

Buddy re-read with Sarah!

I have to be careful to not quote the entire damn book!

Walking to school over the snow-muffled cobbles, Karou had no sinister premonitions about the day. It seemed like just another Monday, innocent but for its essential Mondayness, not to mention its Januaryness. It was cold and dark--in the dead of winter the sun didn't rise until eight--but it was also lovely. The falling snow and the early hour conspired to paint Prague ghostly, like a tintype photograph, all silver and haze.

This book renewed my desire to visit Prague, soon!

Gotta admit. They kind of frighten me. Especially north of the Wall.

Jon was fourteen...

I keep forgetting how young they are in the books! I'm SO glad HBO aged them all. Just thinking about the stuff that happens to them, at these young ages. Ugh.

"An albino," Theon Greyjoy said with wry amusement. "This one will die even faster than the others."

Jon Snow gave his father's ward a long, chilling look. "I think not, Greyjoy," he said. "This one belongs to me."

Scandal by Navessa Allen

So, I've been absorbed into a black-hole reading this story - nothing else sounds good, nothing else is really holding my attention. I just want more, more, MORE!!!

The higher you rise, the further you may fall…

Katherine, the Duchess of Hampshire, has spent the past three years living a lie. Her marriage is one of convenience, and thanks to her husband John’s highly political nature and stuffy public persona, she’s smothered the fire that once burned within her. Thankfully, he’s a different man behind closed doors, and the more time she spends around him and his lover, an artist by the name of Henry Fletcher, the more she begins to wish for something she thinks can never be.

Everything changes between the three of them after an otherwise uneventful evening. Words once left unsaid are spoken, repressed feelings can no longer be contained, and with just a few fevered whispers, their futures are forever altered. But there is a darkness drawing closer to them, and just when they think they have a chance at true happiness, it’s snatched from their fingers by an unseen enemy.

Someone knows their secret, and is not afraid to use it against them to get what they want…

*Warning: This book contains explicitly sexual scenes, including M/F, M/M, and M/F/M scenarios. Reader discretion is advised*

[Reblog] FYI - AmazonSmile Program

As an FYI, if you have an Amazon account, Amazon just released a new program called Amazon Smile that costs NOTHING to you. You can pick OPS (Oceanic Preservation Society) or just about any other charity/organization of your choice and Amazon will donate .5% of your purchase cost to the charity every time you buy an eligible product.

I already buy most of my things from Amazon, so yay! Glad to know a small portion of the cost will be going to an organization that I really love.

EDIT: Details of the program can be found by clicking here. This MAY work for all Amazon members, but it's not very clear.

EDIT 2: It seems to work for ALL members, not just those with Amazon Prime.

The King - J.R. Ward

You know what else I want to know? Who do these fuckers think would be a more "proper" king? They're all spouting off about "pure-blood" and tainting the line blah, blah, blah. Just who are they going to install that would be better? Fuckers. I hate them. Stupid assholes.

When I'd met Tad, a little over ten years ago, he'd only been a kid...He'd been nine going on fifty then, and the only thing that had changed since was that someone had rubbed off the bright and shiny cheer that had been his gift to the world. If I ever found out who had done it, I might sic a werewolf pack on them.

I love how Mercy is so protective of those she loves.
