It's funny, because something like this in some other book? Would irritate the HELL out of me. But here? It works for me. Mercy still does what she thinks is right, despite them trying to 'protect' her - and she doesn't fall into TSTL either - and they still respect her.
They're just stuck in the past (given how old most of them are, I find it fairly understandable).
